Barry Downes LL.B., FSHAA
Barry joined the Board of Trustees in September 2014. He has been involved in independent sector adult hearing care since 1977 when he qualified as a dispensing audiologist. He has nearly 40 years of experience in a variety of roles not only as an audiology practitioner, lecturer and examiner but also in many aspects of business management.
He was President of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA) from 2012 to 2014 and was a long serving member of the BSHAA Council until 2015. He has been a Panel Member and Registration Assessor for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) since 2010.
In 2015, he became a Trustee, Council member and Treasurer of the British Society of Audiology (BSA) and is also a member of the BSA Professional Guidance Group. His current occupation is Professional Services Manager for Amplifon based at their Head Office in Manchester.
He lives in Cheshire and is married with two daughters and four grandchildren. He has lived with hearing loss and tinnitus for more than 30 years and uses hearing aids. Through his own long experience of the daily challenges of living with hearing loss whilst leading a very busy professional life, he connects very strongly to Hearing Link’s vision, values and aspirations.”
