Dan’s a world class Marathon runner

Dan Harrison - Hearing Link London Marathon runner 2017Dan’s family has a history of profound deafness, with close family members reliant on their hearing aids. He therefore understands the importance of hearing protection, particularly in noisy environments, and often wears ear plugs when out at bars and clubs as a precaution.

He says, “Sometimes [hearing loss] is unavoidable for people and they sadly lose their hearing over time or are born without being able to hear. I would relish the opportunity to run and raise money for such a worthy and personal cause as Hearing Link in such a prestigious event as the London Marathon. I had an amazing time. I was going for sub 4 hours and was on course until 23 miles of non stop running when I got a crippling cramp in both quads. I ran so hard I had salt crystals on my face at the end.”

Dan has definitely caught the running bug and hopes to take part in 2018 to beat his 4 hour goal and new personal best. “The atmosphere was absolutely incredible all the way from the excitement and tension at the start, through the half way point going over Tower Bridge, even when I was in excruciating pain being looked after by a Marshall all the way to crossing the finish line. It is a world class event and a truly life changing experience.”

Dan has been a terrific fundraiser this past year. From hosting DJ nights, reaching out to corporate contacts and promoting in his local paper. He’s filled collection pots and organised sweepstakes to raise nearly an amazing £2000!
