Sea anemone proteins may help ‘restore’ damaged hearing

Sea anemones could be key in helping to restore damaged hearing, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of Louisiana have found that the water-dwelling creatures could help to repair damaged hair cells in the inner ear.

Sea anemones detect passing prey by using vibration-sensitive hair cells which cover their tentacles.  It is thought that protein from the creatures could help with regeneration human hair cells.
