Meet the team: Lorna

Hi, I’m Lorna, the new Head of Service Engagement at Hearing Dogs. I lead on Service Engagement that sits within our newly formed Service Design and Development team.

My career in the hearing loss sector started in 2013 when I joined Hearing Link. At that ime, had very little experience of hearing loss however; I soon realised how wonderful the charity, its services and volunteer community were, and over time built up my knowledge and understanding of the sector.

I started out as Hearing Link’s Communications Officer and after two years of delivering key milestones including the International Hearing Loop Conference and many awareness events, I was promoted to the role of Marketing and Communications Manager.

In 2017, when Hearing Link merged with Hearing Dogs, I was fortunate to continue working with our wonderful services.

I have held various roles and responsibilities – including and not limited to – responsibility for service delivery in Scotland, communications lead for Hearing Link Services, running our social platforms and website, writing funding applications, sitting on policy groups and even running our online shop. I have also been Editor of inTouch magazine, as well as being accountable for the Hearing Link Services membership scheme.

New role

Hearing Link Services as it is now know, holds a very special place in my heart.

My roles within the charity have given me the opportunity to live and breathe every aspect of our services and I’ve had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the life-changing impact they can have on the hearing loss community.

I feel honoured, in this new era of our charity, to be entrusted with the role of Head of Service Engagement and playing such a key role in making sure we elevate and develop the services we know and love.

A core aspect of this will involve working with our service users, partnerships, and volunteers to make sure lived experience and advances in the sector play a central role in shaping our future services.

In this update, we have shared more details about how we want to work in partnership. Please do take time to read over this key information and if you want to come along and be part of our co-creation journey, complete our quick survey. Read more about co-creation here.

More about me

Away from work, I live in the Scottish Borders. I have been married to Ross for 14 years, and we have a daughter. We also have a curious and mischievous hamster called Scurrel and a fish called Lily. And, if my daughter gets her way, we will soon be adding a dog into our family too!

In my spare time, when I am not playing taxi mum, I love to watch movies and sport – particularly football, rugby and golf. We also love trip to the beach whenever possible.

The future

I am looking forward working with you all in the coming months. I hope you will join me for the next adventure for Hearing Dogs and our Hearing Link Services.

If you want to discuss any part of our work, please feel free to drop me a Teams message, email or request a 1-1 chat.
