A silver lining – if you wait long enough

Hearing loss and British Sign Language (BSL) classes

Strange how things work out.

For the past three years Sue and I have been trying to learn BSL. First evening course we enrolled in (not cheap, when a deaf person needs signing it’s a shame the costs are so high – I know nothing’s free, but…) failed to start due the tutor pulling out too late for us to join another course.

The next term we enrolled at a different college where the course also ended up being cancelled. This September Sue enrolled and joined (hooray) a course. But, due to a scheduled operation and an ambulance ride after an unscheduled reaction, she missed the first two classes.

Not criticising the college, but when Sue did go to class she found there was too much speech for her to follow and decided the course wouldn’t fit her needs. So, disappointed, she decided to buy a DVD. Then an aunt’s brother’s sister-in-law got in touch and mentioned she led a signing choir, would we like to meet her. We did. She’s great. And she will be helping Sue learn BSL.

Seems there are silver linings if you wait long enough for the clouds to blow away.
