Awards success for Edinburgh volunteer team

We are delighted that our Hearing Support Service (HSS) team, who run the outreach service at Edinburgh’s audiology department each month, have won an Inspiring Volunteer Award from Volunteer Edinburgh.

Well done to our fabulous five – Ann, Margaret, Elaine, Kirsty and Catherine who were crowned Team of the Year.

Ann and Margaret were presented with the team’s certificate by Robert Aldridge, Rt Hon. Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh on 7th June 2023 (pictured).

I’ll let the volunteers tell you all about it in their own words

“This year’s Inspiring Volunteers Award Ceremony was held at the imposing Edinburgh City Chambers. Our team of volunteers, who deliver hearing support services at Edinburgh audiology, were delighted to receive one of these awards. What an amazingly diverse and impressive number of volunteers were recognised for their work at the ceremony. Feeling proud that our Hearing Link Services team was amongst their number.  Also delighted that Alison had arranged for us to have seats near the front, so we could see the speakers, that there was a good induction loop system and that the short video they screened had captions!  Don’t you just love an inclusive, hearing friendly celebration?! – Ann

Ann

Hearing Link Services were absolutely delighted to be invited to the Edinburgh City Chambers to receive an Inspiring Volunteering Award from the Lord Provost of Edinburgh for the help and advice that Hearing Support Services provide at Edinburgh audiology. It was a wonderful evening in a very impressive setting and to see so many different categories represented was amazing.  The oldest being 89 years old, so no age barrier to volunteering!! Ann and I were chosen to collect the award, but we must also say congratulations and thank you to our fellow volunteers that are also involved in delivering our services at audiology. We had good view of the speakers, excellent loop system and subtitles on the video which just made the evening all the more enjoyable.

Margaret

The volunteers I have met at HSS have been friendly knowledgeable interesting and supportive as they share their experiences.  They share this in a way that benefits others on their hearing journey.

Kirsty

HSS provide a massive step up from the loneliness and isolation that so often engulf people with hearing loss.  Information and sharing experiences open up a bridge to understanding and communication.
