Hearing Support Sessions

The July and August sessions in Edinburgh recorded increased number of conversations with patients attending the central audiology service. And, in July, our peer support volunteers reported queues forming before the session had even started!

August followed a similar trend. We spoke with patients attending their audiology appointment. Some people dropped in knowing our volunteers could to talk to them about their hearing loss.

Peer support volunteer Margaret said: “Catherine spoke to a few people who wanted reassurance, more than anything else, and talked about hearing aids and their limitations.

“The first lady that I spoke to was there because she had vertigo.  She’d had a hearing test and had been offered hearing aids, but didn’t feel quite ready for them yet.  She was interested in what we do and took away some leaflets.”

Equally, by recording these conversations on the charity’s Hello2 app, the volunteers contacted the Central Support team who referred beneficiaries on to a pathway of services.

Thank you to Kirsty, Catherine, Elaine, Ann and Margaret for more great volunteering!

We are looking forward to this month when our new drop-in service starts at Blackhall Library, Edinburgh, and one in Worcestershire. Look out for the September update for more information.
