LinkUp support groups

The first LinkUp support group in Scotland for 2023-24 has taken place!

Sixteen participants from various parts of Scotland made their way to Keavil House Hotel, Fife, for a weekend of exploring current issues they faced and finding solutions to them.

Some reasons for our participants to included:

“To gain tips on gaining confidence talking to people when out and about and in groups. I dread having to talk to people but want to get my point across”

“How do I get myself involved more when I am struggling with a conversation? How do I have the confidence to tell someone I am struggling to hear what is being said?”.

“I’m struggling to accept my hearing loss so am keen to talk to others about their coping strategies for acceptance”

Our wonderful peer support volunteers – Ann, Margaret, Charles and Elaine – were joined by Central Support Team advisors Holly, Helen and Jessie. It was an excellent weekend as the immediate feedback shows.

“The volunteers were amazing, all very friendly and approachable. Their knowledge is invaluable”

“I enjoyed meeting others over the weekend and realising we are not alone in the struggles and positives we are experiencing”

“The event was very informative it met all of my expectations”

Many thanks again to everyone involved. Next stop in our LinkUp calendar is our northern training centre in East Yorkshire 30 June – 2 July!
