Lipreading Awareness Week

Two women talkingToday marks the start of Lipreading Awareness Week 2016 (12th-16th September).

Organised by the Association of Teachers of Lipreading to Adults (ATLA), this week is an opportunity to raise awareness of lipreading and for people to attend taster sessions across the country.

The theme of this year’s campaign is restaurants, and ATLA is encouraging proprietors to choose a day during next week when they turn off their music, turn up the lights and use tablecloths to encourage better communication and lipreading. ATLA hopes the week will lead to some restaurants becoming hearing friendly.

For more information or to find out if a free lipreading taster session is taking place near you, visit www.altalipreading.org.uk or email LAW@atlalipreading.org.uk.
