BT rebrands Next Generation Text Service as Relay UK

The Next Generation Text Service, provided by BT, will now be known as Relay UK.

BT launched its new service today (25th November 2019) with a new and improved app of the same name, which is free to use and available to UK mobile customer.

The development of Relay UK has been led by BT on behalf of stakeholders across the deaf community. Hearing Link was heavily  involved in this process along with hearing loss organisations including Action on Hearing Loss, UK Council on Deafness, and the National Deaf Children’s Society.

The Relay UK service translates text to speech and vice versa with the help of a specially trained relay assistant.

The new app offers better functionality, enabling the user to easily make a call based on their own accessibility needs. The user can connect to a call by selecting one of three options: Type & Read, Speak & Read, or Type & Hear.
